The 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, often referred to as the SAG Awards, are set to premiere on Saturday, and will feature a number of stars nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role and Supporting Role.
Many of the nominees, including Penelope Cruz, who first arrived wearing a black halter-style velvet gown by Azzedine Alaïa, and Carey Mulligan, who debuted at the show in a strapless red gown by Lanvin, have had years of experience walking the ceremony’s historic red carpet in style.
Before the premiere of the 2024 SAG Awards, WWD is reflecting on what some of the nominees wore when they attended the show for the first time.
Jodie Foster, 1996
Jodie Foster, who received a nomination this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her work in “NYAD,” attended her first SAG Awards in 1996. To the show, Foster wore a simple white blouse and matching white trousers with sleek strappy sandals and a thin belt both in black leather.
Annette Bening, 2000
Annette Bening, nominated this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in “NYAD,” first walked the show’s red carpet in 2000. The star arrived in an all-black look consisting of a satin lined blazer and matching pants.
Emily Blunt, 2009
Emily Blunt, who received a nomination this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her work in “Oppenheimer,” attended her first SAG Awards in 2009. On the red carpet, Blunt wore a silver sequined Pamela Roland floor-length gown.
Penelope Cruz, 2009
Penelope Cruz, nominated this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her work in “Ferrari,” first walked the show’s red carpet in 2009. The actress attended the show in a black halter-style velvet gown by Azzedine Alaia.

Carey Mulligan, who was nominated this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in “Maestro,” first walked the SAG Awards red carpet in 2010. Mulligan arrived wearing a strapless red gown by Lanvin adorned with a sparkling butterfly belt.

Emma Stone, nominated this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in “Poor Things,” first walked the show’s red carpet in 2012. The actress attended while wearing a tea-length black fit and flare dress from Alexander McQueen’s 2012 pre-fall collection.
Danielle Brooks, 2015
Danielle Brooks, nominated this year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her work in “The Color Purple,” first walked the SAG Awards red carpet in 2015. Brooks arrived wearing a floor-length chiffon gown in navy blue from Christian Siriano.
